Position Summary

Bilingual (French and English) Product Quality Support Specialist works jointly with Quality & Food Safety (QFS), Sales Management, Product Management and Manufacturing departments. The incumbent is charged with supporting the QFS & Sales departments on bilingual customer documentation requests, questions on products, Quality support to the break bulk facilities and Co-Manufacturer’s in Quebec, New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada in a Quality support capacity.

Position acts as resource for quality assurance on French and English customer documentation in the areas of crushing, refining and packaging of edible oils and oilseed meal. The function involves responding to customer inquiries, providing specifications and other technical information including those required to meet the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards, Food Safety Modernization Act, Safe Food for Canadians Act, GMP+ Feed Standard and CFIA Feed Regulatory Modernization as it pertains to the Feeds Act.

Key Responsibilities

Quality, Food Safety & Technical Documentation:

  • Technical Documentation:
  • Statements on Non-GMO, Vegan, Hexane, security letters, Food Defense plans, Gluten, FSMA, SFCR, Heavy metal contamination. Position will be tasked with working on harmonizing these statements with BNA US team.
  • Update current and create Technical Data Sheets and other frequently requested documents from customers into Salesforce for retail Sku’sand Bulk Sku’s
  • Create / align / harmonize Letters of Guarantee
  • Enter Customer Vendor Approval documentation when requested
  • Filling in technical information on process and products into Customer database
  • Filling out forms / responding to customer questions on Bunge processes, Allergens, GMOs, certificate of origin, Technical data sheets, etc.
  • Maintaining information in third party databases including
  • iCiX
  • QADEX
  • Customer specific data management systems
  • SEDEX
  • Other 3rd party databases as indicated by customers
    • Monitor new developments and requirements in the quality systems and incorporate these as needed
    • Investigating and responding to customer complaints for CDN plants and follow up with Co- Manufacturers
    • Monitor new developments and requirements in the quality systems and incorporate these as needed
    • Act as back up for QA Manager Canada for Quality and Food Safety related projects, when assigned.

Regulatory & Specification Management

    • Keep current on regulatory changes affecting Bunge Canada products and ensure these requirements are communicated and implemented.
    • Responds to Bilingual regulatory questions on Oils, Margarines, Shortenings and Canola & Soy Meal
    • Work with plant personnel and other corporate departments to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements for Product Quality

Break bulk facilities

    • Checking for proper dosage of additives to be added to bulk break loads when required, on a daily basis
    • Training Bulk break facilities on QA requirements
    • Quality audits at CN Cargo or Brasseur (trucks, railcars, sampling, sending samples to Bunge labs to double check quality of oil)

Customer Service

    • Ensure that customer inquiries for technical information, application information, regulatory questions or product concerns receive adequate responses in a timely fashion
    • When assigned, oversee the functioning of the customer complaint/corrective action system
    • Ensure responses are provided to customers on complaints and provide on-site technical assistance to customers as required

Contract Packager & Supplier Management

    • Ensure that contract packagers and suppliers in the region understand and are compliant with Bunge Canada and customer food safety and quality requirements
    • Ensure that procedures are in place to audit and approve suppliers, carriers, co-packers and warehouses used by Bunge Canada from a quality and food safety/security perspective

Safety

    • Promote and enforce safety in the workplace when supporting the field by personally demonstrating safe work habits
    • The incumbent is also responsible for following and communicating all safety procedures. These involve safe driving of a vehicle for work, wearing of proper safety attire where required, and obeying all other safety instructions.

Qualifications And Experience

    • B.Sc. or M. Sc. Degree in Food Science, Food Engineering or Analytical Chemistry, or applicable science degree
    • 3 + years of Bilingual (French and English) industry experience in oil seed processing, oil formulation, shortening, margarine and application preferred
    • Knowledge of Canadian Regulatory requirements for food/feed
    • Prior Quality and Food Safety experience in ingredients, oils, margarines, ,shortening and meal
    • Prior experience in Customer Service, Analytical, and oil chemistry will be an asset
    • Prior experience in GFSI schemes / SQF will be an asset
    • Fundamental knowledge of project initiation, planning and control
    • Expertise in documentation organization skills and multitasking
    • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel required
    • Knowledge of SAP preferred
    • Up to 20% travel required to support Product Development, troubleshooting and QA Issues.
