Associate Product Development Scientist
The Associate Product Developer will be leading R&D work streams with Pilot Plant and Manufacturing facilities to deliver on the Innovation & Renovation business goals. This role will appeal to individuals who enjoy the challenge of leading in the creation, improvement and execution of vegan products. The incumbent will leverage critical and technical thinking and scientific skills to bring together consumer needs and product possibilities into winning, and creative innovation. The individual will need to be self-motivated, team oriented and enjoy a fast-paced environment that enable us to deliver innovative and creative products that allow for our competitive intensity within this category. A passion for food science and technology together with that ability to translate theory to practice are critical to be successful in this position.
Position Responsibilities
- Design, plan, assist and execute experiments from bench top, pilot plant to scale up trials; collect and analyze data, document and report results, and make recommendations
- Engage and assist Innovation Manager in preparing and documentation of SOPs, organizing training sessions, troubleshooting the pilot plant equipment and execution of all pilot plant related activities as required
- Renovate formulations by ingredient, process, and packaging approaches to improve product quality
- Coordinates, plans and participates in product sensory tests using internal panels
- Consults technical resources (literature, technical papers, academia) to further product knowledge and apply the learnings to execute projects
- Maintains documentation, SOPs and files associated with benchtop and pilot plant activities
- Assists with identification and development of ideas for technology improvements / cost savings
- Prepare and present technical reports / results, both written and oral, to associates, peers and management
- Work closely with internal and external stake holders in achieving business goals
- Some travel required

Requirements
- Food Science degree is a mandatory for this position. Sc. With a minimum of 2 years of experience or M. Sc. with minimal to no industry experience
- Experience in alternative proteins and/or plant-based food product development is an asset
- Higher degree is a plus
- Prior exposure to Manufacturing plan and Pilot Plant operations or Quality Control preferred
- Highly motivated, critical problem solver, results oriented, performance driven and easily adapts to change, ability to work in a fast paced, robust, and inclusive environment
- Outstanding organizational skills & ability to coordinate multiple projects and assignments
- Strong communication: interpersonal, presentation, oral and written
- Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Power Point, Word, Project
- Preferred: SAP knowledge
